Baidurya Bhattacharya (BTech CE IITKGP 1991 and PhD Johns Hopkins 1997) is the Dean of International Relations at IIT Kharagpur. After serving on the R&D team at the American Bureau of Shipping, Houston TX, for two two years and on the faculty of the University of Delaware for four years, he returned to his alma mater at Kharagpur in 2006 as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. He was promoted to full Professor in 2011. In his current role as the Dean IR at IIT Kharagpur, Bhattacharya is responsible for setting up academic and research programs with institutional partners around the world. Earlier, as Chairman Civil Construction and Maintenance, he was responsible for the planning design and construction of 3 million sqft of new space, including three new mini-campuses, for the Institute. He has held visiting positions at Stanford and Johns Hopkins. He was elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2016 and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2018.
